The heart can be represented in countless versions, both alone, or in conjunction with other subjects. Depending on the context it also assumes different meanings. In cases of a religious tattoo it becomes the Christian symbol of a sacred heart and shows the devotion to the Heart of Christ.
In Buddhism, the heart is associated with the Dharmacakra, the Wheel of the Law, and a symbol of perfection of the universe that conveys awareness, spiritual devotion and compassion. The most obvious meaning is clearly tied to affection, or simply as a representation of grief for the loss of a love or a deceased loved one.
